Industry Insurance

Client

The client, is a Company that provides data regarding flood hazards. This information is handed over to the Insurance industry in the USA. They provide flood zone determination & risk assessment against flood hazards for insurance companies.

Project

The FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) publishes flood hazard maps for various counties within the USA, called the FIRM (Flood Insurance Rate Maps). These paper maps had to be digitized for the flood zones and given the relevant attributes towards the type of zone, the flood elevation, etc. The various flood maps for each county had to be digitized and merged into a single digital flood map as per specifications of the customer.


Methodology & Technology

These paper maps handed over to Variac, have been digitized for each county's flood zones and then merged into a single digital flood map, while demarcating various features like - type of zone, flood elevation, etc. The project was done on the Arc View platform with the final map product in Arc Info Export (E00) format. The project attained almost 100% success thanks to not only an efficient digitizing process, but also the presence of a Quality Control Group that monitored the process. Over a period of 8 to 10 months, flood maps for more than 700 counties all over the USA were completed and submitted to the customer. FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

Project

The project at hand was to digitize the various drawings of a building in Europe. This would cover the plan, layout, electrial, plumbing, fire, ventilation, etc and other features.

 
 


 Methodology & Technology

The drawings were redrafted individually and also superimposed one over the other to show the various details together. The layering, specifications and engineering were typical of the standards used in Switzerland.

DETAILED LAYOUT OF A SHIPPING VESSEL

This project involved the digitizing and creation of CAD perfect drawings covering the complete layout of a ship for a US based company. It included a total of 12 highly detailed drawings covering the various decks (floors) of the ship.

 
 


Methodology & Technology

The drawings were drafted as per the layering and specifications laid down by the client. The drawings covered various areas of engineering including plan, electricals, telecommunications, etc. The work was done using AutoCAD R14. The work was undertaken by 6 skilled CAD operators and completed within 6 weeks.

ARCHITECTURAL

Project

A particular project involved the development of the detailed plan and elevation drawings of a multi storeyed five star hotel in the state of Florida.

 
 


Methodology & Technology

Variac was provided with the basic information and base drawings along with the design changes marked on them. The drawings were redrafted for each floor along with all the necessary details and as per the format and layering required by the architects. The project involved as many as 35 drawings which were submitted to the complete satisfaction of the customer who had no problems approving it for construction.
